Acrolophitus hirtipes is a large green grasshopper found east
of the Continental Divide. It is never abundant but can be found in weedy
rangeland at 4,000 to 7,000 feet elevations. Eggs overwinter in the soil
in Wyoming. Nymphs occur early in the spring with adults found in July
and August. This species feeds on forbs and prefers plants from the Borage
family. It does little if any economic damge to the rangelands of Wyoming.
