MonDak Potato Project - Montana

Jerry Bergman, Superintendent MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center
Joyce Eckhoff, Agronomist MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center
Jim Staricka, Soil Scientist NDSU Williston Research Extension Center
Mike Degn, Farmer Cooperator (Sidney Area)
Mike Ritland, Farmer Cooperator (Glendive Area)

All test fields in this study had center-pivot irrigation systems. The test fields were located at four sites in Richland County and two sites in Dawson County. There were a total of 400 acres. Soil texture ranged from sandy loam to dry loam. Russet Burbank and Shepody potato varieties were grown at various Richland County and Dawson County sites. These potatoes were harvested for either direct haul or on-site storage for later delivery; Mike Degn built a 100,000 cut-potato storage facility near Sidney IMT.
